Ferreira, Carvalho, Maniche, Derlei, Costa and arguably the best player in Europe that year, Deco in the side. People like Alenichev coming off the bench for them. Won the European cup whilst starting 10 Portuguese players that night. Beat United in the first knock-out stage then beat Lyon. Beat the side who knocked out Milan the fucked the side who'd just knocked out Madrid and Chelsea. They were better than good.
You don't win back to back European trophies if you are just "good".

because many sides win the champions league in the modern days with 10 starting domestic players ;D
hence why when mourinho went to chelsea he bought up all the local talent ;D
they were a good team playing to a great system set by the special one
