Well what are you trying to play to start with? Forget about the sounds for now; it wont sound exact because i'm guessing your guitar is shite and his is ace. If i can give you any advice, learn the basic chords: A,C,D,E,G and just practice moving between each chord to get your fingers moving. Little tip, play each note of the chord (i.e a G chord has 3 notes in it) make sure each note is played at the bottom of each fret. so, for example, the G chord has a note on the bottom string, fret 3. Make sure you're pressing the notes down at the very bottom of the third fret, it should stop any shitty rattle you get
