When i'm asleep I often wake up at say 5am and i'm wide awake, I literally could get up easy and start my day, however I dont need to start my day at that time so go back asleep.... When I go back asleep, even for half an hour I cannot possibly wake up. I know funland isn't overrun with Doctors. So i'm not expecting serious answers.

It's because you're gay.
Well, you did ask.
It's probably to do with biorhythms.

ION, how bloody great is it when you wake up after assuming you've slept the whole night, then check your clock and you've only been asleep for an hour and don't have to go to work yet.

I agree with EFC, you have gay biorhythms. Nah, my mate in work comes in 2 hours early sometimes as he does what Ice mentioned above. It is called "Sub-concious suggestive sleep" and it's just a case of telling your body to not fall into the deep sleep in the extra 2 hours or so you may have before alarm. tinyurl.com/suggestive-sleep

I heard your body sleeps in 4 hours slots, so if you wake up after 4 hours/8 hours/12 hours you'll feel more awake and fresh than say 5/6/7/9/10/11 hours.
If that makes sense

Sounds reasonable. Babies have 2 hour "slots"

It quite likely has a lot to do with circadian rhythms and melatonin.

Talking about sleep, I READ ONE OF COINY'S POSTS, SENT ME OFF A TREAT!!1! LOL etc I got an app on my phone called Altered States which basically plays a humming noise in your ears as you drift off. They claim your brain tunes in to the special wave signals etc. I'm normally sceptical about that sort of thing but every time I use it I sleep deeper and have more intense dreams than I can ever remember. I'm not sure if it's actually working or if it's just a suggestive thing, but it seems to do the trick
